Vaccination Requirements

  • Distemper/Parvo(DHPP)

Your puppy will receive their first vaccination between 6 and 8 weeks old, and booster shots will be given once every 3- 4 weeks until your puppy is 15 to 18 weeks old.
After that, they will require a booster every year or every 3 years, depending on which booster your vet recommends.

  • Rabies

While Rabies is super rare in Alberta it is still a strongly recommended vaccination and a requirement at Dogs Tail for all pups over 16 weeks.

After that, there is a 1-year booster or a 3-year booster.

  • Bordetella

Bordetella is also known as Canine/Kennel Cough.

This vaccination is not always a standard vaccine, and you may have to ask your vet for them to administer it.

    Bordetella is a yearly vaccination.

  • Exceptions

Please provide a note from your vet if your pup has any exceptions.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Health Notice

We are happy to provide care for injured dogs or those with special medical or health needs, but for the safety and health of other dogs at Dogs Tail, we cannot accommodate dogs with contagious diseases or parasites. Common diseases or parasites include but are not limited to, bordetella (kennel cough), conjunctivitis, and intestinal parasites/worms. Symptoms of diseases include coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, discharge from the eyes, nose, mouth, and/or visible parasites in the stool. Dogs with contagious diseases or parasites are not allowed at the Dogs Tail.

If a dog shows signs of disease or parasites while in our care, we will isolate them from the other dogs, and the owner will be asked to bring them to the vet for a check-up. The dog is welcome to return to Dogs Tail only after the vet declares them healthy and free of disease or parasites.

Dogs who have undergone surgery must be cleared by a vet before being allowed back into open play. Pups in recovery can remain on-site in private supervised suites with gentle, individual exercise under the recommendation of the pup's vet.
